Comprehensive Eye Examinations
When we do eye exams, we refuse to cut corners. We provide complete vision assessments and comprehensive eye health examinations for patients from age zero to over 100 years old. Quality is much more important to us, than quantity. We want to spend quality time with each individual patient and get to know you so we can better meet your visual needs.
During the complete vision assessment, your visual skills and oculomotor abilities are carefully evaluated. We'll check to make sure your eyes are working together, known as "eye teaming". We'll test your focusing system, known as "accommodation". And we'll check every other aspect that is important for the binocularity of your vision. In the end, this gives you the most accurate eyeglass prescription possible. Besides: Your glasses are only as good as the prescription you put into them.
During our comprehensive eye health examination, we check your eyes inside and out for any signs of ocular disease. We will check for external ocular disease such as dry eye syndrome, meibomian gland dysfunction, keratoconus, Fuch dystrophy, and more. Internally, we will examine the intraocular structures for signs of glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, retinal holes, and more.
At Vision Source - Mandan, we truly believe the eyes are the window to your health. Every single time you come in for your complete vision assessment and comprehensive health examination, we will check your blood pressure, ask about any medications you may be taking that could have ocular side effects, and discuss your medical history to reveal any medical conditions that can affect your eyes. Plus, we can often see the beginning signs of high blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, or other vascular diseases - just by looking into your eyes! There have also been cases where we have possibly saved patient's lives by seeing something inside the eye that prompted a referral to their primary medical doctors. From brain tumors to impending strokes to increased spinal pressure, the eyes are the window to your health!
